Clothing Care
1. Read the Label: Before anything else, always check the care label on your clothing. This will give you specific instructions on washing, drying, and ironing.
2. Washing: Sort your clothes by color and fabric type. Delicates should be hand-washed or placed in a mesh laundry bag before going into the machine. Use the appropriate detergent and water temperature. For wool or silk items, use a specially formulated detergent.
3. Drying: Whenever possible, air-dry your clothes by laying them flat on a clean surface or hanging them up. This prevents shrinkage and damage that can be caused by high heat in a dryer. If you must use a dryer, choose a low-heat setting.
4. Ironing: Be mindful of the temperature settings on your iron for different types of fabrics. Some clothes may not tolerate high heat or direct contact and may need a protective cloth between the iron and the garment.
5. Storing: Hang clothes that are prone to wrinkling, and fold those that might stretch out on a hanger. Use padded
hangers for delicate items. Store in a cool, dry place to prevent mold or mildew, and use garment bags for extra protection from dust for seldom-worn pieces.
6. Stain Removal: Treat stains promptly. Blot the area — don't rub — and use the proper stain remover based on the type of stain and fabric.
Shoe Care
1. Cleaning: Regularly clean your shoes with a soft brush to remove dirt. Use a damp cloth for leather shoes and a gentle
cleanser for sneakers.
2. Conditioning: Leather shoes require conditioning to stay supple. Use an appropriate leather conditioner and follow
the instructions carefully.
3. Drying: Never dry shoes by putting them near a direct heat source as this can cause the materials to warp and crack.
Instead, allow them to air dry naturally, and stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and maintain shape.
4. Storage: Keep shoes in a cool, dry place where they can breathe. Avoid stacking them on top of one another to prevent distortion and scuffing. Consider using shoe trees for maintaining their shape.
5. Repairs: Address minor issues like loose soles or worn-out heel tips before they lead to more damage. Consult a professional cobbler for any complex repairs.
